school badge

Kanazawa University The school emblem of the University was designed by Kamenosuke Morita (then President of Kanazawa College of Arts and Crafts), Yoshinori Mori (then President of the same school Associate Professor), and Teizo Hano (then President of Ishikawa Prefectural High School of Arts and Crafts), and was proposed as a joint work by the three, which was decided in August 1949. The design was based on the leaves of the acanthus (Japanese name: Haazami), a plant native to the Mediterranean coast, and the word "daigaku" (University). Its elegant leaves were favored by the ancient Greeks and Romans, and were used as a decorative pattern on the capitals of Corinthian and composite buildings. The Academia was also planted in the garden of the Academia, the school founded by the philosopher Plato.

Since then, the word "Acanthus" has been used in the name of the university's public relations magazine and in the names of bridges connecting the campus districts, and has been familiar to students and faculty for many years.
