Environmental Initiatives (Carbon Neutrality)

Kanazawa University is promoting efforts toward carbon neutrality by 2050 with the four pillars of "research","social co-creation","education" and "campus" under the all-Kanazawa University initiative.
We have formulated and published the "Action Plan 2022 (March 2022)" and "Action Plan 2023 (June 2023)", which clarify Kanazawa University 's stance toward carbon neutrality, revise the roadmap, and enhance specific results and targets for research, education, and other areas. The "Action Plan 2023 Revised" has been formulated and published. In addition, we published "Progress Report "e:C0Real" 2024 vol.1", which summarizes the results of our efforts in FY2023.

Greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to achieve carbon neutrality

Mid-term target: 51% reduction from 2013 levels by 2030
Long-term target: Achieve carbon neutrality by 2050

Roadmap to carbon neutrality

In addition to promoting research and development that contributes to carbon neutrality with various stakeholders and further enhancing education on global environmental issues, we have established a roadmap to promote efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at campus facilities.
Kanazawa University It is estimated that the social implementation of the research results of the "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project (GHGR)" will "reduce greenhouse gas emissions by hundreds of millions of tons per year," far exceeding the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from the campus (about 35,000 tons), and is expected to have a ripple effect not only in Japan but also throughout the entire planet.
