On October 25, the 2nd "Kirameki" J-PEAKS Space Science and Engineering Research Hub Symposium was held in a hybrid format at the Nihonbashi Life Science Building in Tokyo, with approximately 70 participants, mainly from companies and universities.

As part of its efforts to strengthen research capabilities under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s (MEXT) "Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities with Regional and Distinctive Characteristics (J-PEAKS)," Kanazawa University is working to establish two research hubs aimed at creating a world-class research center that promotes the integration of the humanities, sciences, and medicine. This symposium, titled "Exploring the Origins of Elements and the Possibility of Life in Space — Pioneering the Future with Diamonds," featured presentations by members of the Space Science and Engineering Research Hub, centered around the university’s Advanced Space Science and Technology Research Center, Diamond Research Center, Institute of Nature and Environmental Technology, and Nanomaterials Research Institute, who introduced an overview of the hub’s activities.

The symposium began with opening remarks by Kanazawa University Trustee Shinichi Nakamura, Head of the J-PEAKS Promotion Headquarters. In the first session, Professor Daisuke Yonetoku of the Institute of Science and Engineering Faculty of Mathematics and Physics / Research Center for Advanced Space Science and Engineering, Professor Norio Tokuda and Assistant Professor Kan Hayashi of the Diamond Research Center, and Professor Keisuke Fukushi of the Institute of Nature and Environmental Technology delivered presentations on the progress of their space-related research and future prospects. In the second session, six young faculty members and students gave poster presentations. The event provided a valuable opportunity for lively discussions with numerous attendees, fostering expectations for further research development. ??

Kanazawa University will continue to strengthen its research capabilities and enhance support that leads to social implementation through J-PEAKS. With the 10-year vision of becoming a "world-class hub that continuously generates disruptive innovation," the university is committed to taking campus-wide actions aimed at "advancing basic and interdisciplinary research" and "accelerating social implementation." As part of its efforts to strengthen research under J-PEAKS, Kanazawa University is conducting the seminar series "Kirameki."
