On July 27, Kanazawa University held a Public Lecture entitled "Forms and Shapes of Familiar Materials" at Kakumachi Plaza. 15 people ranging in age from their teens to their 70s participated in the lecture.

First, the lecturer, Kanazawa University Emeritus Professor Koki Kunimoto, gave a lecture on "What is materials?", explaining the importance of viewing "objects" that we usually recognize using our five senses such as touch and smell as "materials" made up of molecules, atoms, etc. Next, using molecular models, the students created molecular models that make up familiar materials.

Students commented, "The explanations were easy to understand and I really enjoyed the class. I think it will change the way I look at materials" and "It was fun to actually use the models to visualize the shapes of molecules."
