[Subject] The glymphatic system

,,
[Speaker] Prof. Maiken Nedergaard(University of Copenhagen, Denmark)

Textbooks have long stated that cerebrospinal fluid produced in the ventricles of the brain circulates around the brain and is then absorbed into the veins through the arachnoid granules of the skull. Recently, however, it was discovered that cerebrospinal fluid also penetrates into the brain parenchyma and plays an important role in removing waste products from the brain. This cerebrospinal fluid flow, named the glymphatic system, is thought to be involved in the elimination of amyloid-β and other substances, and has attracted attention from the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases. In fact, the results of the glymphatic system were selected as one of the "Top 10 Breakthroughs" by Science magazine in 2013 and have been highly evaluated worldwide. Dr. Nedelgaard is a world-class researcher who discovered the glymphatic system and is leading research in this field. We are pleased to have this opportunity to have him give a lecture in Kanazawa, and we hope you will join us.
