On June 10, students from Kanazawa University visited Tazuruhama Elementary School in Nanao City and held a musical exchange event titled "Let’s Create Together! Music Festival at Tazuruhama Elementary." Participants from the university included: four 2nd-year students, one 3rd-year, and one 4th-year student from the Music Group of the College of Human and Social Sciences, School of Teacher Education, three 1st-year graduate students from the Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies and two 2 teachers from College of Human and Social Sciences, School of Teacher Education.????
Since the 2024 academic year, the Music Group has been engaged in musical exchange activities as part of educational support efforts in the Noto region. This year’s members began preparing as soon as April, repeatedly discussing and experimenting with various ideas—what songs would delight the children, which instruments might spark their interest, and how best to speak and interact to ensure smooth facilitation. Through this process of trial and error, they diligently practiced and refined their performance.
The program featured performances using a variety of uncommon instruments, such as trumpets, clarinets, cajóns, shamisen, contrabass, and boomwhackers (Do-Re-Mi pipes). There were also activities like a “guess the song” quiz and a group sing-along. When students asked, “Do you know this instrument?” the elementary school children responded with great energy—“I know it!” “Shamisen!”—eagerly engaging with the experience. The children showed a range of lively reactions to the sounds, from surprised expressions to delighted smiles. For the university and graduate students, the exchange through music offered a deep sense of connection and fulfillment. It was also an incredibly valuable opportunity that boosted their confidence as aspiring educators.
